We have been so busy these first few weeks of school. Visits to the Springfield Science Museum and the Becket Outdoor Center were highlights. In the classroom, we jumped right into multiplication by first playing "Circles and Stars," and them making arrays. Once the basic conceptual understanding is in place, students will be asked to start memorizing multiplication facts. Get ready!
We began our Social Studies unit which begins with the Wampanoags and Pilgrims, and travels up through American history ending at the finish of the Revolutionary War. In ELA, we are immersed in non fiction units in both Readers' and Writers' Workshops. You can read the third graders' finished products as they are published on
One of our most exciting projects this month was our "We Stand With Malala" slide show. Ms. Casna, our CBRSD superintendent, visited our classroom and read us a book about this inspiring young girl. The students were so impressed with her determination and belief in righting wrongs that they wrote their own pledges. They then were inspired to work together on a presentation. They designed their own slides, did a voiceover, and then put them together as a thank you for Ms. Casna. Please take some time to look at the finished product. You will find the link here or under "Helpful Links" on the left side of the Home page. It is a moving and impressive piece that your children created.
